Privacy Policy

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy applies to the LeafLog mobile application ("App"), developed and operated by Mikasa Labs LLC ("we," "us," or "Company"). LeafLog is a plant care companion for Android that helps users track plants, set reminders, log care activities, and capture plant photos.

We are committed to protecting your privacy and only collect the minimum data needed to operate the App. This policy is designed to comply with applicable privacy laws including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), Brazil's Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados (LGPD), Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), and other international privacy regulations.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Data You Provide (Stored on Device Only)

LeafLog does not collect, transmit, or store your personal data on any server. All information you enter into the App is stored locally on your device using an on-device database. This includes:

• Plant profiles (nicknames, species, notes, profile photos)
• Care activity logs (watering, fertilizing, soil changes, notes, photos)
• Reminder schedules and settings
• In-app notification history

We do not have access to this data. You have full control over it, including the ability to delete it at any time by clearing app data or uninstalling the App.

2.2 Backup and Export Data

LeafLog allows you to manually export your plant data as a ZIP file. This export may include plant information, care logs, and optionally plant photos. The export file is saved to a location you choose on your device. We do not receive, access, or store any backup files.

2.3 Information Collected by Third-Party Services

The App integrates third-party services that may collect data independently. We do not control their data collection practices. These services include:

Google AdMob (Advertising): The free version of LeafLog displays advertisements served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect device identifiers (including the Android Advertising ID), IP address, device information (model, operating system version), and ad interaction data. This data is used to serve relevant ads and measure ad performance. For details, see Google's Advertising Policies and Google's Privacy Policy.

Google Play Billing: If you purchase a premium subscription, payment processing is handled entirely by Google Play. We do not receive or store your payment information (credit card numbers, billing address). We receive only purchase confirmation data (subscription status, transaction ID). Google's handling of payment data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

Google Play In-App Review: LeafLog may prompt you to rate the App using Google's In-App Review API. This uses Google Play services; any data associated with the review is handled by Google per their privacy policy.

3. How We Use Information

Since we do not collect your personal data directly, our use of information is limited to:

• Providing App functionality (plant tracking, reminders, care logging) — all processed locally on your device
• Displaying advertisements in the free version via AdMob (managed by Google)
• Processing premium subscription status via Google Play Billing
• Responding to support inquiries you initiate via email

4. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)

To the extent any personal data is processed through third-party services integrated in the App, the following legal bases apply:

• Consent: Advertising data collection by AdMob, where consent is required by applicable law (managed through Google's consent mechanisms)
• Contractual Necessity: Processing required to provide premium subscription features via Google Play Billing
• Legitimate Interests: Serving ads to support the free version of the App, and fraud prevention

5. Permissions

LeafLog requests the following device permissions:

• Camera (optional): Used only when you choose to take plant photos. Photos are stored locally on your device. The camera is never accessed without your explicit action.
• Notifications (Android 13+): Used to deliver the care reminders you set. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings.
• Boot Complete: Used to reschedule your reminders after your device restarts, ensuring you do not miss care activities.
• Internet: Used by AdMob to serve advertisements and by Google Play Billing to process subscriptions. LeafLog itself does not send your plant data over the network.

6. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

LeafLog is a native Android application and does not use cookies. The App itself does not implement any analytics, tracking pixels, or similar technologies.

Third-party SDKs integrated in the App (such as AdMob) may use device identifiers and similar technologies for advertising purposes, as described in Section 2.3.

7. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal data.

Since LeafLog stores all user data on-device, we have no data to share. The only data sharing occurs through third-party services:

• Google (AdMob): Device and ad interaction data as described in Section 2.3, for the purpose of serving advertisements
• Google (Play Billing): Subscription and transaction data for payment processing
• Legal Requirements: If required by law, court order, or to protect our rights and safety, though we have minimal data to disclose

8. International Data Transfers

Your plant data remains on your device and is not transferred internationally. Third-party services (Google AdMob, Google Play) may process data in the United States and other countries where Google operates. Google ensures appropriate safeguards for international transfers, including Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs).

9. Data Retention

On-Device Data: Your plant data, care logs, reminders, and photos remain on your device until you delete them within the App, clear the App's data, or uninstall the App. We have no ability to retain or recover this data.

Third-Party Data: Data collected by AdMob and Google Play is retained according to Google's data retention policies.

Support Communications: If you contact us via email, we retain correspondence for as long as needed to address your inquiry, and delete it afterward unless a longer retention is required by law.

10. Your Privacy Rights

10.1 Rights for All Users

• Access and Control: All your data is stored on your device. You can view, modify, export, and delete it at any time within the App.
• Ad Personalization: You can opt out of personalized advertising by adjusting your device's ad settings (Settings > Google > Ads).
• Permissions: You can revoke any permission (camera, notifications) at any time in your device settings.

10.2 Additional Rights for GDPR (EEA/UK Users)

• Data Portability: Use the App's export feature to obtain your data in a portable format (ZIP file).
• Right to Erasure: Delete your data within the App or by clearing app data/uninstalling.
• Restrict Processing: Limit ad data collection through your device's ad settings or by upgrading to premium (ad-free).
• Withdraw Consent: Withdraw ad consent at any time through device settings (without affecting prior processing).
• Lodge a Complaint: File a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

10.3 Additional Rights for CCPA (California Users)

• Know: Know what personal information is collected — see Section 2 of this policy for a complete description.
• Delete: Delete your on-device data at any time through the App.
• Opt-Out of Sale: We do not sell personal information.
• Non-Discrimination: You will not receive discriminatory treatment for exercising privacy rights.

10.4 Additional Rights for LGPD (Brazil Users)

• Confirmation of processing and access to data
• Anonymization, blocking, or deletion of unnecessary data
• Portability to another service provider (via the export feature)
• Information about entities with which data is shared

10.5 Exercising Your Rights

Since your data is stored on your device, most rights can be exercised directly within the App. For any additional requests, contact us at the email address in Section 14. We will respond within the timeframes required by applicable law (typically 30 days, or 45 days for CCPA requests).

11. Data Security

We implement appropriate measures to protect your data:

• All data is stored locally on your device, protected by your device's security (screen lock, encryption)
• The App does not transmit your plant data over the network
• Third-party communications (ads, billing) use encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS)

Your device's built-in security features (screen lock, full-disk encryption) provide the primary protection for your data. We recommend keeping your device software up to date.

12. Children's Privacy

LeafLog is not directed to children under 13 (or 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The App displays advertisements that comply with Google's policies for general audiences.

13. Updates to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, third-party services, or legal requirements. Material changes will be communicated by updating the "Last updated" date above. For significant changes, we may provide additional notice within the App.

Evolving Regulations: Privacy laws and regulations continue to evolve globally. We commit to updating this policy to maintain compliance with new and amended privacy legislation as it comes into effect.
